GS1 Logistics eCom Group begins work on Warehousing

GS1 Logistics eCom Group begins work on WarehousingCompanies are more and more often outsourcing their warehouses or distribution centers to third parties (LSPs). This leads to a need for a seamless integration of the systems of both the owner of the goods (LSC) and the party managing the physical operations (LSP).

The warehousing part of the Logistics Interoperability Model (LIM) addresses this need. Less than with transport management, outsourced warehousing requires a high degree of integration between the systems of both parties, and therefore the requirements around Master Data alignment between LSP and LSC will also be taken into account.

The objective of the LIM is to gain benefits for global supply chains by increasing the business interoperability and visibility of operations.

The LIM achieves this by harmonizing the interpretation of the business processes, as well as standardizing the structure and content of the data interchanges.

LIM consists of seven domains:

  • Interoperation Agreement
  • Master Data Alignment
  • Logistic Services Conditions
  • Planning
  • Warehousing
  • Transport
  • Financial settlement
  • The BRADs (Business Requirements Analysis Document) and BSDs for Transport Management (TM) and Transport Planning are completed, and currently work is ongoing on piloting the TM messages.

We are happy to announce start of the next important work stream BRAD for Warehousing part of LIM.

The Warehousing comprises many operations, thus the work is proposed to be split into three BRADs:
1. Master Data
2. Goods Receipt and Despatch (Inbound and Outbound)
3. Inventory Management

The first two BRADs could be developed in parallel with a lead time of 4 months, and the third BRAD would be developed after that with a lead time of 3 months.

The frequency of the conference calls is one call in two weeks. On average it will be 2 conference calls a month. The calls are held on Tuesdays at 14:30-16:00 CET.

If streamlining messages in the Warehousing activities is important for your company and/or GS1 MOs, come and join the group and contribute with your knowledge and experience!

We need your expertise to build global open standards that can be used by you, your partners, anybody in the Supply Chain to gain benefits from improved business-to-business communication for all stakeholders.
